RESEARCH / PROPOSED FUNDING POLICY

Useful work today.
Room for the next discovery.

Our proposed starting point is to reserve 20% of eligible net proceeds from participating Phyllux work for reviewed research and open resources. The remaining 80% supports the business and its maker.

Proposed policy · examples only

This page is a review candidate. No funds, incoming sales, disbursements, charitable status or investment returns are established by these examples. A purchase pays for its stated product or service.

01 / FOLLOW THE ARITHMETIC

Start with a sale.
Make the costs visible.

All examples are in CAD. Sales tax is excluded from the starting amount. Refunds and chargebacks, payment fees and documented direct delivery costs are deducted before the 20% allocation. The proposed initial scope is settled direct book/download sales and new Phyllux service invoices after the approved start date. Marketplace royalties, subscriptions and partner income are excluded unless separately listed. No earlier sale is retrospectively represented as a contribution.

Proposed shares of eligible net proceeds. This diagram does not represent an actual balance.
Eligible net proceeds = sales excluding tax − refunds − payment fees − direct delivery costs
Research allocation = max($0, eligible net proceeds) × 20%

Direct delivery costs can include agreed contractor labour, attributable compute, materials and shipping. Owner time, if charged as a direct cost, must use a recorded rate and time basis. General living costs and an arbitrary owner withdrawal do not become hidden deductions. No loss creates a research contribution or a debt to the pool.

Illustrative fees and costs, not a quote, actual transaction or promise of profit. Participating offers and the start date must be approved and identified before this becomes a sales claim.

02 / WHAT THE POOL COULD SUPPORT

Small, inspectable steps.
Useful public outputs.

Begin with work that can be explained, budgeted and checked. A medical or quantum concept does not become a validated device because it receives funding.

At $100

An illustrative documentation or diagram milestone, with a defined deliverable and permissions.

At $500

A bounded software or geometry-study milestone, subject to an actual quote and available resources.

At $2,000

A larger modelling or bench-planning milestone with a published scope, evidence criteria and cost record. These figures do not establish what a laboratory test will cost.

03 / DECISIONS & ACCOUNTABILITY

Show the work.
Show the money trail.

Once activated, publish a period-by-period ledger with money reserved, transfers actually made, approved expenses and remaining earmarked funds.

  1. Close the period. Reconcile paid sales, refunds and costs monthly. Hold unsettled items until their status is known.
  2. Record the allocation. Show the method and the amount reserved; distinguish an accounting allocation from cash actually transferred.
  3. Approve a milestone. Name its purpose, maintainer, scope, maximum spend, licence, deliverable and review criteria. Record conflicts of interest and related-party costs.
  4. Publish the outcome. Link receipts or redacted expense evidence and the resulting work. Do not expose customer information, private contracts or personal health records.
  5. Reconcile changes. Reflect refunds, corrections and unspent balances openly. A future policy change is dated and applies prospectively.

The proposed pool is an internal earmark, not a separate trust, charity or investment vehicle. Contributors do not receive equity or a promised financial return. Sponsorships, donations and their payment/receipting arrangements are not active through this preview. Paid research needs a separate written scope.
